March 2010...

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, well that's just about correct as the weather starts to turn a corner and feel a bit less like winter and a bit more like spring. With some great gigs lined up this month like Edguy, Heaven's Basement, Witchfynde, The 69 Eyes, Wrathchild and a trip to Wales with Sack Sabbath it's business as usual for GD.

Discworld with The Man of Metal…
Isolysis – Condemned…
Picture the scene, you’re in your local branch of HMV or ---------- (insert name of record shop that hasn’t gone bust) you buy the new album by a major signed band who’ve been around for a decade or longer for something like fifteen brick. Upon arrival back at your abode you slip the silvery disc into your CD player, tune up your air guitar ready for some monstrous posing in front of the mirror only to find the eagerly anticipated new album’s a bit of a damp squib and not a patch on the bands last opus. We’ve all been there so to avoid similar disappointment make sure the next CD you buy is Condemned by Isolysis, it’s nine tracks and thirty five minutes of sheer class and that’s another thing, the brevity of Condemned reminds me of the days when albums where released on vinyl and not ‘filled’ out with tedious tracks of inferior material. Condemned is Isolysis’ debut album and what a fine job they’ve made of it, there’s songs on there you can thrash your air guitar to within an inch of it’s life like lead the blind and the prophecy lead guitarist Dan ‘Monic’ Beardsley will astound you with his catchy riffs and dextrous lead breaks. There are also songs on Condemned that will appeal to your more subtle side like the ties that bind, the needle and locked in torment lead singer Bane will have you singing along into your air microphone to these while wake the fallen and title track the condemned are songs that are gonna get you up and jumping like a loon. New disorder and vampurity are both down right dirty the latter of which has the opening line of ‘fuck you and the horse that you rode in on’ classic! David ‘RockstarRuffin is at times epic on drums and I can’t think of a word that sums up Dan ‘Syndrome’ Hayes on bass, the guy is so unassuming but he possesses a great talent which shines through on these nine tracks. I was fortunate enough to get to the launch evening of Condemned which was held at the Scala cinema in Isolysis’ home town of Ilkeston, the gig sold out, the band played the whole album live and in order plus a few of their other songs and on the way out everyone received a copy of Condemned, all for the ridiculously low price of £6 now that’s what I call value for money in these days of the credit crunch. Isolysis are playing gigs every week and recently featured on the bill of the prestigious Hammer Fest so make sure you get along to see them live and buy a copy of Condemned I’ll guarantee you’ll play it over and over again and wake up, go to work and have several of the songs whizzing around you head all day long… GD.
